Red-wattled Lapwing

Red-wattled Lapwing voice is very unique and everyone might have heard of this bird's call.

This bird is common in Indian urban and rural areas. This is a ground bird and incapable of perching. Natural habitat for this bird wet land lake beds, sometime you find this bird on the roof of unused buildings.

Red-wattled Lapwing is wader bird and its length will be around 35 cm (14 In) long. Male and female have similar plumage but the tail of the male is 5% longer than female.




Red-wattled Lapwing lays eggs from March to August months. Incubation is shared by both Male and Female parents. Eggs hatch in 4 weeks (28 days) but not all eggs are hatched. Eggs has to be protected from various predators like mongoose, crows, kites.
