This bird is frequently encountered in groups of seven or more, hence the popular name "seven sisters" or "saat bhai" in Hindi. It is light brown in colorand rather untidy.
Flocks hunt for insects among leaf litter in open jungle, well-wooded compounds, gardens and groves of trees. Birds hop amidst the litter, one hop at a time, overturn fallen leaves and search for insects.

Figs, berries and nectar from flowers of the coral, Silk cotton and other trees also form part of their diet. The noisy, seemingly endless chatter they often indulge in gives this group of birds the name "babblers" .
Nesting can be at any time of the year. The nest is cup built from twigs, rootlets and grass in the fork of leafy branch and is generally 2 to 3 meters from the ground. Its nest is parasitized by cuckoos
